I had a similar instance told I would get rent assistance with a well known senior center. I missed the first appointment and made another. Only to be told when I filled out the forms they in California were just taking applications as no funds existed but they would let us know when they were. I told them could not you have told me that over the phone....That was last summer early..
Call 211 and ask about temporary cash assistance for your state ok??
